Solange covers the Summer 2013 issue of Brooklyn Magazine where she talks about her life, family and career. Some excerpts below:

On her decision to move to New York for her son’s sake: “We were living in LA and I was writing and recording this album literally between the hours of 9am and 3pm every day because that was the time that Julez was in school. We were completely isolated, we didn’t have any family or long-term friends there, and we didn’t have that support system built in there that we have in New York. We really wanted Julez to have the experience that we had growing up — being able to drop in on his aunt’s house and being able to hang out with Grandma and see our friends and have that experience of actually having a soccer game and having family show up.”

Managing being a single, working mother: “Is definitely a balancing act, and it is not at all easy. I do the best I can, which involves a lot of saying no to things, actually, and a lot of really organized scheduling and a lot of help, to be honest. That was one of our major incentives to moving here. We were living in LA and I was writing and recording this album literally between the hours of 9am and 3pm every day because that was the time that Julez was in school. We were completely isolated, we didn’t have any family or long-term friends there, and we didn’t have that support system built in there that we have in New York.”

They did it for “V”

“Tha Lady Is A Champ”: Jennifer Lopez covers V Magazine Spring 2012 and inside the issue Jennifer is candid about her fears, her failures, and her family. Re her famous ex Marc Anthony, she comments: “We’re parents and friends first. That will be the thread that ties us together. I don’t know if people expect it to be negative just because the [intimate] relationship didn’t work out.”

“Private Dancer ”: The six-page spread channels some of the memorable looks that Ms. Turner wore during her live performances. Naomi flaunts her famous long legs wearing a series of fringed designer dresses styled by Joanne Blades.

Funny how my previous posts have been about magazine covers, and well… this post is no different! Angie covers the October issue of Vanity Fair magazine where she discusses and quashes rumors of a secret wedding and admits to fears about writing and directing her first feature film.

Lovely pic with her daughters, Zahara and Vivienne (background).

Swept Away?

Had to do a double-take when I saw this Time Magazine cover at a Woolies this afternoon. Amazingly done – artistically depicts the partial demise of Lybian leader, Moammar Gaddafi.

By Tim O’Brien, talented political illustrator.

Sept 2011 – cover of the month

Something about Marie Claire always feels a bit more organized, a bit more grown and a lot like it adds actual value, not just pretty pictures. I like the pretty pricture too though.

This is my cover of the month in the battle of the September issues currently on newsstands.

Cover feature: Ukranian-born Mila Kunis
