Thanks to my very deary friend Kmo, I recently attended the Sanlam SA Fashion Journalism Awards, which took place at Jo’burg’s Monarch Hotel in Rosebank. With host Nataniël keeping everyone entertained with light-hearted jokes about the rich and famous.
If you can imagine any of SA’s fashion industry heavy weights, they were there. The big winners of the morning were Milisuthando Bongela, who was awarded for her breaking feature on the colourful fashionistas of Soweto, so-called the Street Smarties, which appeared in ELLE SA while Jenny Andrew won for her Paper Dolls feature in Wanted, under the Visual Fashion Editing Category for her clever use of Hazel Buchan’s paper designs. They weren’t only honoured but the prize included R25000 each, towards any major fashion destination of their choice! Wow…
(Hmm think one of them might be jetting off to NYC?!?)
The Sanlam SA Fashion Journalism Awards aim to promote the growth and quality of articles due to the rise in opinion-driven broadcasts, from being on the outskirts to a more weighty and closely watched arena.
